Seattle-Tacoma (“Sea-Tac”) International Airport is one of the United States’ top twenty busiest airports. In 2008, it served more than thirty-two million airline passengers. It is located in the city of SeaTac, Washington, twelve miles south of downtown Seattle, and twenty miles north of downtown Tacoma. The airport is easily accessed via State Route 518, State Route 99, and Interstate-5 is just a few miles to the east.
Sea-Tac Airport offers travelers and those providing transportation to airline passengers a variety of parking options. At the airport, the Port of Seattle operates a large eight level on-site parking garage, which is across the airport drive from the main terminal. This convenient garage is adjacent to airline departure check in and baggage claim. Taxis, limousines, and airport shuttles all pick up passengers on the western side of the garage. The garage is connected to the main terminal via sky bridges on the fourth floor.
The Port’s airport parking garage offers several new parking options, for hourly, daily, and weekly parking. The most convenient and expensive parking option is Terminal Direct Parking on the fourth floor. Rates range for $4 for up to one hour to $35 for up to twenty-four hours. Both short-term and long-term parking are available in Terminal Direct Parking. General Parking is available on floors 3, and 5-8 of the Airport Garage. Rates range from $3 for up to one hour up to $26 for a twenty-four hour period. General Parking also has a weekly rate, with a reduced price of $130 for a seven-day period. Rates are subject to change. Motorcycles pay the same rates in both Terminal Direct and General Parking.
For vehicles over seven feet in height, but not more than twenty-five feet in length, there is special parking available. Vehicles must follow the signs for “Overheight Parking” and General Parking rates apply to vehicles in this category. There are a limited number of over-height parking spaces available. Sea-Tac Airport Parking also has Americans With Disabilities Act (“ADA”) parking spaces available in both General Parking on the fifth floor and in Terminal Direct Parking. Vehicles parking in ADA reserved spaces must display a valid disabled permit.
Drivers picking up airline travelers can park and wait in the airport garage or wait for free for up to one-half hour at a nearby cell phone waiting lot. Sea-Tac Airport does not allow drivers picking up airline passengers to park on the airport drive that provides access to the main terminal. Only brief stops in designated areas for unloading and loading of passengers and luggage is permitted.
In additional to congestion, parked cars in front of the main terminal are a considerable safety hazard. Drivers leaving cars parked in front of the airport will be subject to a $20 parking fee and $150 tow bill, at a minimum.
Sea-Tac Airport is also served by nearly two-dozen nearby private parking lots, located within three miles of the airport. Many are located on or near International Blvd. (State Route 99), which is the primary SeaTac thoroughfare. The airport parking lots provide travelers with secure twenty-four parking and free airport shuttle service. Daily rates for these private parking lots vary in price typically from about $6 a day up to $20 a day depending on the location and level of service provided.
Private parking businesses near the airport include: Seattle Masterpark, Seattle Masterpark Valet Garage Parking, Ajax, E-Z, Park ‘n Fly, ShuttlePark Doug Fox Parking, Thrifty, Budget, WallyPark, Park ‘n Jet, All Star, and SeaTac Park. Several nearby hotels also offer airport parking including Econo Lodge, Best Value Airport Inn, Skyway Inn, SeaTac Crest Motor Inn, and the Doubletree Inn. Thrifty Airport Parking also offers mechanical, oil changes, and car wash services. WallyPark and Extra Car also offer car-washing services.
